Tips For Overcoming Fear And Overwhelm In Your Digital Business

When starting out on your business, the entrepreneurial journey cannot and should not be rushed. It is different for everyone because it's a personal journey.
Often, new entrepreneurs in our community who feel overwhelmed send me little emails asking me "how long I think it will take for them to start seeing some sign of life in their new business"
If you are an entrepreneur and you find yourself often asking this question, know that you are not alone. But asking such questions certainly doesn't help produce your success.
It is such a poor quality question that the best you can possibly get out of this frequency is more overwhelm and self-doubt.
In my little greenhouse this question was presented to me yet again by a new member who just joined our mastermind. She is not a newbie as an entrepreneur and has been struggling her way into success for a long time in her traditional business.
As she now seeks to transition into the online business, she's realizing that those same methods can only produce the same old results, which is a far cry from her heart's desire. The new freedom and success that she would love to enjoy in her digital business is going to require a new mindset.
When she asked me " how long is it going to take?" I told her the same thing I am going to tell you, if that's something you often wonder.
It will take only as much time as is needed for you to manifest the prosperity you desire.
Stop asking such low quality questions! They can only sabotage the goodness that's trying to make its way into your life.
Albert Einstein is among the brilliant minds whose known to place emphasis on asking high quality questions.
If you go to Google and type in a low quality question, you can only receive a low quality answer. All the answers are there, but you will only have access to the answers that come close to your question.
Similarly, if you go to life and ask such low quality questions, you can't possibly expect the highest and best answers to make their way into your experience.
So, do yourself and your business a huge favor and stop sabotaging your incubating success with those negative thoughts. This is why we have meetings in my little greenhouse, because I realized the need to create a space where fellow entrepreneurs can come and feel safe enough to dream, to mastermind and to nurture the seeds they've sown in their business.
Since fear is one of the biggest evils in the world, we must always be on the lookout for the tricks and seductive measures it may use to lure us in.
It isn't that fear is powerful; rather it's our minds that haven't been properly trained and developed.
After many years of poor mental and spiritual diets, our mental muscles are frail and so when we have a big dream, when we go after prosperity and freedom through digital entrepreneurship, we've got to make sure that certain measures are also at hand to help strengthen and develop the right mental attitudes and maintain the right atmosphere.
So if you have been struggling with overwhelm, that's OK just learn to move through it quickly.
If you are the kind of person who feels like you have too many ideas that you don't know which action to take first, that's OK too, just don't allow yourself to become paralyzed by that.
I can't tell you how many people I talk to who feel stuck because they don't know whether to podcast, shoot videos, publish articles, write a book, create a course or do webinar trainings first.
Listen, the choices in the online world are endless, if you get caught up in the hype that marketers sell us each day over "which big thing to do now to gain 1000 subscribers fast" you'll never start anything!
Stop being blown away by the winds of online marketing and start following your own game plan.
Designing your digital lifestyle and living life on your own terms begins with learning to carve out your own best path, not blindly following gurus.
If you struggle with thoughts such as:
  • What if I fail?
  • What if I become too successful and end up losing my family relationships, friends etc.
  • What if more success means more hard work?
  • Will things change if I have more money?
  • Who am I to really think I can create an online empire.
These are all just patterns of thought that form your paradigms. It is the paradigm that you seriously want to work on so that you can renew your mindset to one that favors the growth and success of your business.
The topic of paradigms and your mind would require an entire lesson of which time doesn't permit here, but I certainly encourage you to check out our website because there's a downloadable complimentary lesson on the mind and paradigms.
For now, here are a few tips that will help
Whenever you catch yourself in that space of overwhelm, self-doubt, discouragement and fear, do the following:
1. Take 6 deep breaths paying close attention to your breathing.
2. Acknowledge the achievements you've made in your life. There are certain things you've accomplished so far, bring those to mind, acknowledge that, and celebrate it.
3. Connect to your vision and ground yourself in that. Reconnect with why you're even choosing this entrepreneurial path. What is your big "why" - and this is where your purpose comes in.
If the driving power for this chosen path isn't something deep, passionate and beautiful, you won't be able to fuel yourself into victory. The right desire is all-important; so make sure you get very clear on yours.
4. From this space of having connected with your vision and falling back into alignment with it, consider what you have now, where you stand, that you can use to move forward.
Learn to start with what you have, where you are, not what you don't have.
Stop seeing what you don't have or what's missing in order for you to move toward your dream and start finding what you've already got working for you. And I will not accept that you don't have anything - there's always something.
We live and move and have our being in the midst of divine intelligence and divine love; there's got to be something no matter how small that you can use now. Ask the divine power breathing you, and He will give you a clue as to what you could use.
5. It's time for inspired action. Take just one baby step action today that will move you toward your vision.
Something that will move you a step closer in the direction of your dream and that desire that you hold in your heart. It doesn't have to be anything big, just make sure it's meaningful, in service to your dream and that you enjoy doing it.
Finally, may I encourage you to just allow yourself to be in the flow of your life and the season that you're in.
If you stop trying to force things to become what they aren't yet ready to be, you'll dissolve many of the aches, pains and frustrations that currently surround you.
Life is perfectly unfolding, divine intelligence is all around you and as long as you do your part to the best of your ability and in true faith, life will always deliver far richer manifestations than you could ever produce through willpower.

Faith in a Seed, Investment in the Roots: Cultivating the Garden of an Entrepreneurial Venture

Henry David Thoreau once stated, "Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders." While I appreciate this quote, I think that it perhaps puts too much emphasis on the seed (or idea) alone. While a seed is necessary, I feel that attention should turn towards the roots (processes, goals, human capital, etc.) that single seed can lead to developing.
In fact, this observation reminds me of the recent Western Carolina University Leadership Development tour of the Cradle of Forestry in Western North Carolina, where I learned of the approach to life (and development) that an oak tree will adopt. Interestingly, in its first approximately 20 - 25 years of life an oak tree will spend ~70% - 80% of its energy and resources developing a robust and pervasive root system. In this example, while the seed is the starting point, it is the root system of a future, mighty oak that serves as the real genius of its development.
I think it is important to reflect on the oak tree's approach to life. Instead of growing tall and strong first, the oak tree stays small and chooses initially to grow deep, deep into the earth. An oak tree grows with their long or end game in mind, not for the instant gratification and short-term results. This approach to life carries a lesson for all of us as human beings, but takes on a particularly relevant lesson for those of us who, as Machiavelli stated, "choose to take on a new order of things" in the form of innovation and entrepreneurship.
For example, when you think about an entrepreneurial venture, what you see standing above the surface is but a fraction of the energy and results of the effort invested in that organization or idea. For the purpose of this article, the primary components of a start-up's root system are as follows:
• Value Proposition - identifies an aspect of your product/service that makes your offering appealing to potential customers and helps sell and market that product. This serves as the cornerstone to your venture.
• Talent Development/Cultivation - a basic strategy for bringing in, developing, inspiring, and maintaining the best talent associated with your venture with the greater goal of sustainability. Additionally, talent development can help maintain consistency, trust, and more exceptional customer service or product development, while aligning with the application of your value proposition.
• Strategic/Business Plan - frames your venture in a standard way by providing objectives and methods/strategies for reaching them. This is a recognized document that potential funders can relate to and it serves as a more accurate and robust expansion of your idea/product, the value proposition, and the stakeholders involved.
Finally, as an entrepreneur, the most valuable lesson to take away from the mighty oak is to remember to stay true to your roots. By doing this, you will invest your time, energy, expertise, and resources into your roots. If you nurture your roots, they can support you as you continue to grow to new heights and new depths!

10 Ways Entrepreneurs Can Change the Social & Economic Story

Men and women who create for-profit and nonprofit new ventures can and should do things of the kind that the President-Elect is likely to neglect, negate, or avoid. Entrepreneurs can quietly change the story, one organization at a time, whatever government may or may not do.
Here are ten ways venture founders can alter the course implied by what we know of Donald Trump's intentions. They are all within our own authority, not those of government. We can:
  1. actively appreciate the economic and social needs of disadvantaged groups and consider how our own organization can make a difference-or start a new one that can; at least ensure that our own organization does not contribute to disadvantage;
  2. be inquisitive about rural and underserved populations adversely impacted by political, economic and tech change-and examine ways that our organization can make a positive contribution, including the offer of products, services or employment;
  3. create inclusive policies on gender, gender identity, race, national origin & religion; offer all employees dignity & respect, provide healthcare, parental leave, clear policies on sexual harassment, & the opportunity for participation in decision-making and sharing organizational success;
  4. take the opportunity to participate in the life of local communities to mutual advantage, through direct civic engagement, as well as supporting employee volunteering; become involved in community supported enterprises;
  5. evaluate all practices of the organization that may contribute directly or indirectly to climate change-and introduce ways that will reduce pollution; seek to be powered by clean energy and move to zero waste;
  6. ensure that the pay ratio between the highest and lowest paid members of the organization does not exceed 20:1 (as it was in 1965) to reduce financial inequity, given that the ratio between average American CEO pay and worker pay is now 303:1;
  7. re-examine the consequences of all purchasing decisions, in order to avoid pain and hardship, either in supplier organizations or the local and global community; research supplier behaviors on socio-economic parameters;
  8. commit to support the lifelong learning of all members of the organization, regardless of where they are starting or what position they hold-through internal development programs and external qualifications;
  9. employ socially responsible financial policies that do not disfavor any stakeholder, either close at hand or nationally, as well as avoiding immoral or self-serving practices, such as the avoidance of repatriating foreign profits;
  10. build a widely communicated progressive corporate story that is reflected through the behaviors of everyone in the organization and enshrined in all official organizational procedures; regularly monitor its reality.

Entrepreneur 101: I Got an Idea, Now What?

And so the journey begins; you get this idea to create a one of a kind product, you convince yourself that this product will solve a whole lot of problems, and make you really wealthy. Sounds familiar? An idea is one thing, but embarking on the journey of making your idea take flight is a whole different ball game. For many people, the thought of leaving a consistent income to start a new business can be scary and nerve-racking and agreeably so, but, people have gone through the entrepreneurial experience, and they say it is worth it.
There are a lot of reasons why people go into entrepreneurship. If you do not like the regular 9-5 lifestyle and want to work on their own terms, then maybe entrepreneurship is for you. People get fired from their jobs or have a bad experience in the traditional workplace and this gives them the push to figure out their dreams and strive to pursue it, while others have to stay home with family. Irrespective of the reason why decide to become an entrepreneur, you must set goals, write them down and review them from time to time to keep yourself grounded.
Entrepreneurship is not bliss, it is a journey of ups and downs, and it does not matter what caused you to choose this lifestyle, starting off on the right foot can really help you keep the momentum going throughout the entire journey. Here is what you can do to start off on the right foot.
Celebrate. We all love a good party don't we, there is never a good time or better way to start your entrepreneurship journey than with a celebration. A great idea is a good thing, and is worth celebrating, not everybody has the guts or opportunity to do what you want to do. Celebrating your idea does not have to be elaborate, it could be a party of 3, 4, 5 whatever you can do, make it memorable, make sure it is something you would remember, because trust me, it may be a while till you do find a reason to do this again.
Write a Business Plan. The next thing to do is to plan your business, there is a saying that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Get your pen and paper, tablet or laptop and start writing, write down everything you want your business to look like, your product(s), product names, the personality you would like your business to embody, what you want to accomplish, how you would like to shape the world, how you would handle marketing and how much would you like to make. There is nothing that too inconsequential to include, and you should review and make changes to your business plan when necessary.
Get to work. Ever hear the term wantrepreneur? They are people who tell the whole world about this wonderful idea but never sit down to bring these ideas to life. Entrepreneurs are not like that, so get working, start creating your product or service, when you create the product, test it, make sure that the product works exactly the way it has been designed to work.
Grow your Community. One good way to promote your product is by talking about it, give people snippets of what your product can do and get their opinion. Spend time to engage with people who you think would be the best customers for your products. Social media is a great place to do this. You want to start to create demand for your product early in the product creation process.
Stay Positive. It really can be discouraging when things don't go the way we plan. The fact of life is that things don't always go the way we plan or imagine it would, the people who are successful are the ones who pick themselves up after a failure or defeat and carry on. You must stay strong and stay positive all through your journey to succeed.

Entrepreneurship Misconceptions

Don't let what others think about entrepreneurs hold you back from greatness,
Misconception is a thought or opinion that is incorrect based on the faulty thinking or understanding of people. Here, we want to clarify some of the misconceptions in entrepreneurship.
They work for money
Entrepreneurship isn't all about money, it's about solving problems for people and love what they do. Also, it's about creating a name for themselves and making a positive impact in the world.
Money is also a way to do bigger and more exciting deals. The motivation of a new idea, and the risks involved have far more power to motivate the entrepreneurial spirit than money. In entrepreneurship, your business and success become an obsession not the money.
They lack courage
I've never seen anyone that is as courageous as an entrepreneur.
It takes courage to forego the predictability of a corporate job, It takes courage to take the risk of failure, It takes courage to make your dreams into reality.
And it takes courage, lots of it to hand over the reins when your startup grows beyond your ability to manage it.
That's why entrepreneurs are rightly the true heroes of our modern world.
They are professionals
Most successful entrepreneurs are not highly qualified fellows, but are success driven. Surprisingly, attending an elite university or higher education doesn't provide a significant advantage in entrepreneurship. What matters is that the entrepreneur gains a degree; the choice of major or college doesn't play a big role in success. However, the greater the education of the entrepreneur, the lower the rate of business failure and the higher the business's profits, sales and employment.
They sometimes have overnight success
It may seem to you that entrepreneurs made the huge amount of money, but do you know that there is a lot of handwork before he made it.
Overnight success is possible; entrepreneurs are inspired to start their own business by witnessing successful and established entrepreneurs. They study the success stories, the beginning of those success stories, which often includes massive struggle prior to the breakthroughs. As a matter of Fact, it takes years to become an overnight success in entrepreneurship!
Many entrepreneurs needlessly worry that they haven't perfected their ideas. No idea is ever perfect. When you have an idea, go ahead and build a prototype or two, tinker with what works, make refinements as necessary, but by all means get it out there! You can always improve on a good idea. Let the market help you improve.
You don't have to be a Harvard graduate to be an entrepreneur, but you do need to understand the characteristics of entrepreneurial. See you at the top!

Why the Mindset of an Entrepreneur Is Important

Various emotions and thoughts cross your mind when engaging in the idea of owning your own business. Many entrepreneurs get a sense of excitement while also feeling overwhelmed. You then relish in the idea that you can be your own boss that writes and cashes your own checks. However, shortly after all the initial excitement has passed, you begin to wonder will my product or service work, will it sell, or will I be able to take care of myself? With so many questions that you establish a great response for, doubts and uncertainty often formulate an antithesis in the shadows of our mind. Preparing and reframing your mindset about yourself and your business will determine how you operate and make your business successful.
I once heard Bishop T. D. Jakes say in his sermon entitled "A Changed Mind," you can never change your reality without first changing your mind. This statement has stuck with me ever since. It sounds so simple, but when you think about it, it is powerful. How often have you had preconceived notions about someone or something until you interacted with it or them and all a sudden, your perception is no longer the same from before your encounter? For instance, getting on a roller-coaster is frightening (especially the Fury 325 at Carowinds) but once you get on and scream to the top of your lungs when it stops most people want to ride it again. It wasn't that the ride got less scary it's just your mindset changed. What you believe will determine how you respond. If you're constantly thinking, I cannot do this or I know "it" will fail, it is more likely that you will not be successful. It's not because you did not have a good idea, or you weren't capable, but you could not see past your doubt to see the success that could have been.
When starting a business, you must understand that there will be natural deterrents that may arise, whether it be capital, office or storage space, or even market potential if you are trying to create a demand. Nevertheless, how you view these obstacles makes all the difference. Having limited capital may require you to utilize every possible resource you may have. Do not be afraid or too prideful to ask for help. Not having enough office or storage space will make you strengthen your organization skills. Creating a demand for your product or service will cause you to be more creative than you ever been. It's all how you perceive a challenge to be. Even with the unknowns do not allow fear to cripple you, instead let it be a motivator. We have an innate ability to fight or flight in any given situation. Choose to fight! Refuse to give up because of your past mistakes. In fact, reframe those mistakes as learning opportunities and never doubt your ability to break bad habits.
I would also like to stress the importance of having confidence in yourself. Think of it this way, if you had to buy a product or service from Eeyore or Tigger (characters from Christopher Robbin's Winnie the Pooh) who would you patronize? Eeyore, the humdrum individual who was not sure of himself and found every opportunity to tell you how miserable his life was or Tigger the jovial, outgoing, charismatic who loved to laugh and have fun even when working? I would go for a Tigger every time. How you view yourself is how others will view you. Be your own motivator and surround yourself with cheerleaders. Having a good support system is very integral in the pursuit of turning your dream into a reality.
Finally, as the adage goes, birds of a feather flock together. Surround yourself with successful entrepreneurs. Glean from their past business mistakes and triumphs. Read entrepreneurial magazines and books, network by joining professional groups or clubs, and engage and talk with potential customers about the product or service you are trying to offer. Be unyielding in your pursuit of changing your mindset when it comes to yourself and your business. What you believe is how you will succeed. Believe the best, speak life into your business, and shut down the voice of your insecurities. After all of that take the leap of faith and fly.
